Abstract

The automatic era's development also impacts the community's social interaction—both in the natural and virtual worlds. Interaction in the virtual world is influenced by the rapid growth of increasingly sophisticated technology. Technology offers an accessible medium of communication through social media. Brotherhood and friendship are no longer limited by place and time. On the other hand, technological developments also trigger the spread of false news, hate speech, defamation, media gossip, and slander. Departing from this problem, it is necessary to study in-depth how wise social media morals should be under moral and religious guidance.

The study's aims were to 1) describe the use of social media in Indonesia and 2) describe the morality of using social media in the guidance of Islam. The research method used is library research or literature study. The results of this study stated that; 1) More than 50% of the population in Indonesia is actively using social media. The social media used include; Whatsapp, Tik Tok, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The average use of social media per person is 3.14 hours per day. 2) Morals using social media in the guidance of Islamic teachings need to be applied, namely posting something good, not harming yourself, not harming others, not violating the law, giving comments and chatting politely, not gossiping about others, not chatting excessively with the opposite sex. not a mahram, Don't talk about the disgrace of other siblings, Share correct information, and Share useful information.
